The Best From the Tropics: Organic & Fairly Traded Chocolate from Panama edit

It was in the last Summer Fancy Food Show in Washington when I learned about how far has our cocoa beans gotten in the international chocolate world! It was such a great surprise, and the best part is that I had the opportunity to taste them and compare it to others.

In September 2008, Equal Exchange launched our first single origin chocolate bar, using cacao beans from Panama. We have received nothing but superb feedback on this new bar, the Organic Panama Extra Dark (80% cacao content), which people are describing as rich, robust, well-balanced, chocolatey, fudge-like and more.... After doing some research I find out that the cocoa beans used are produced in the Bocas del Toro province at COCABO R.L. Cooperativa de Servicios Multiples Cacao Bocatoreña:

We are certified as a Fair-Trade organization, conscious of the commercial advantages that an alternative trade system based on consumer solidarity has for our producers. Our members have direct access to the marketplace and have developed just and egalitarian working and trade conditions that ensure them a sustainable lifestyle. From COCABO.org

Congratulations on the great work and quality of your products, this is exactly what we need! I really hope to be able to visit their headquarters in Bocas del Toro and learn about the process.
Have a great week!
Oh, BTW, if you have some extra time and want to have fun, you can always play Bingo! Good Luck =)

Hi Melissa, as a self proclaimed chocholoic, I have a weak spot for artisan dark chocolate. Do you know if you could purchase this organic fair-trade dark chocolate in Europe or UK?
